Tamuz was the son of Nimrod and Ishtar. Believe it or not, hot cross buns started with Tamuz. The cross on the buns was originally the "T" in Tamuz.
There is a lot written about Babylonian gods/goddesses. Bottom line: Babylonian pagan mythology became the basis for most future middle eastern and European pagan religious characters.
