Because coffee grounds add acidity to the soil along with nutrition, and ivy plants grow best in acidic soil. Roses love coffee grounds too.

Coffee grounds act as a compost to the soil. You can also throw the filter in with it (as long as it's white) and bury it in the soil, it will eventually breakdown in the dirt.

Also, consider buying some earthworms from a bait shop and release them into your garden. They eat things form the dirt and expel waste that is very beneficial to the plants.

I'm not sure why, but I used to have a plant that thrived by pouring room temperature coffee in it. Everyday I'd empty my cup into the plant and it grew like crazy. So it's not just the grounds!

I think it's because the coffee grounds allow the soil to be more aeriated and to drain better. And maybe any left over caffiene gives em a good boost (just joking).

Coffee grounds are a good source of nitrogen, adds acidity, & acts as a
mild insecticide. The grounds are also good for azaleas, roses,
blueberries, & your compost pile, too. (If you have one)

Any acid loving plant could benefit from spent coffee grounds & tea, too! Plus it saves them from going to the landfill. If you don't have the spent grounds available, Starbucks will give some to you for free!
