They havn't played good at all! That game against Ecuador was a pure luck goal from Beckham. And If they have been playing good then they should have won Trinidad & Tobago 6 to 0!!!!!
They have no chance on winning. They are good players and a good team but they have just been playing weak teams.

Chances on winning the cup. England 39%, Brazil 51%, Germany 48%, Argentina 55%, Portugal 32%, Italy 46%, Im not naming the rest.

because our players are more then capable, they just arent lucky! its 2006, we won in 1966, its all in the 6's! they want the win more then anything and we always get far in the compertitions, maybe its about time we go all they way! And if its a Germany n England final it will be like history repeating itself, well worth watching! best of luck england!

Their soccer tradition puts them there (Final 8 in 1982, 1986, 1998, and 2002, 4th place 1990 during the FIFA Cup competitions since it began in 1974, as well as Final 8 in 1958, 1962, and 1966, and Champions 1966 during Jules Rimet Cup competitions). They are always among the top 8 teams during tournament play, but never seem to get that push into the next round (except in 1990 when they beat Cameroon).

Also, the quality of their players, in all the positions, they are strong, especially GK (which is not the case this tournament. He is no Shilton, Banks or Shearer).

Not to mention the performance of their clubs during the Champion League tournaments. That adds respect and prestige.

You are right. They have not been challenged, maybe only once against Sweden. But traditionally teams like Paraguay and Ecuador play as they do when they know they can't play one on one with you, and why they are not in the category of Brazil or Argentina. And they will not be challenged by Portugal. The test of the greatness of their team will be in the semifinals, if they make it, and I think they will.

By the way, Brazil has played easier teams, not to mention Portugal. Ghana dominated Brazil and made them look bad. If they had a Drhogba or an Eto'o as a forward, that match would have been different, or going their way.

I thought everyone before the cup thought England was going to win but after seeing their first few group matches, everyone changed their mind. England has yet to play at the level they are capable of (the same can be said for Brasil) and England will have a tough time with Portugal if they do not 1) step it up and 2) switch the formation from having one striker to 2.

It's just a matter of popularity, mainly focusing on Beckham. They're just a big name that's empty. A pretty face with little talent. But, I have to admit that Beckham's goal against Ecuador was absolutely brilliant. That was their only goal, however.

Traditionally England seem to raise their game against "better" opposition.
Saturday should see a great game.... But I agree, they haven't been convincing until now.
France improved vastly since the group stages, instead of swaggering around the pitch, they actually played!

COME ON ENGLAND!!

I think England THINKS they will win the cup the way the US always thinks they'll win the Ryder Cup..it's their birthright. Unfortunatly, England may only be the 3rd best team in germany1

I don't think England will win (I think it's between Argentina, Brazil, and Germany).

Portugal will win, I guess your assumption of "everyone think England will win" is wrong.

We have some great individual players, but they don't seem able to function as well as a team as they do for their clubs!
