It seems to happen at least once a day, and SEEMS to happen just at the end of a looooong letter, or something I have spent a lot of time and energy doing.......that could be just sods law I guess!
HELP, I am a bit thick with technology, so keep it simple please!

this is definitely due too over heating and if you carry on like this your laptop will not be working at all. When the processor overheats the system shuts down very quickly indeed. The pop is just a noise but the important thing is that your system is overheating and if you carry on in the long term it will not not do you system any good.
if your laptop has any cooling fans /vents under neath it then maybe you can raise the back edge a bit to allow air around that area. I had a similar problem with my laptop and that's what I did and it worked.
Seriously think about cooling if I were you.

Need memory upgrade. It can't handle that amount of processing.
