USB is a short form of Universal Serial Bus. Its a kind of a rectangular plug with 4 wires in it. There are devices like mp3 players, flash drives etc. which have similar sized holes in it. you could put one part of the USB cable on this device and the other side into your computer's USB port (Plug socket) and transfer data.
The main advtg of using USB - devices is that almost all computers (and now-a-days all devices) have this port. so u can transfer data from anywhere to anywhere.
