It is a really loud sound and goes away after you press on the gas for a minute or it drives for a second or two however I have heard cars who have a continuous screeching noise.

sounds like you've got a fan belt problem...
if your car engine has around 40k-50k miles on it, it needs to be replaced. having it break while driving could be disastrous. havethem checked for excess slack , and replace them if needed.

most cars have three basic belts on them-

1. the fan belt
2. the airconditioning belt
3. the cam drive belt/chain

newer cars usually have one serpentine belt doing the job of the first two. these belts must be replaced every 100,000 kilometers.

Sounds like a bad or loose belt. Check the belt for strong tension and if it seems to be ok, then chances are the belt is due for replacement. and if by some odd chance that doesn't fix it. Then look to a glazed pulley or faulty tensioner if so equipped, which if it's even marginally new it will be. the noise you're hearing is the belt slipping across one or more of the pulley's at a high rate of speed causing it to squeal. Once the engine runs for a while the belt heats up and gets a little sticky, thus making it no longer slip, and no noise. Make sure you have it checked out beacause it's only annoying right now but if left unattended to it could leave you stranded.

Sounds like a bad belt. I would just go get it checked out. Mine started doing that and my fiance replaced one of the belts. Don't know exactly what it was, but I would go to a mechanic. Not a dealership, either, unless the car is under warranty. They overcharge for things a normal mechanic can do.

Its a bad belt that wont stick to the pulleys. It sound like the ac belt. If you dont have the to take to a garage, you can but a spray that makes the belt stick from a parts store.

Sounds like a worn serpentine belt.
A worn belt will chirp or screech when it is damp because it tends to slip on the pulley's.

One of your belts is slipping, may be failing and or a self tensioner(auto belt adjuster) is failing

Condensation, (moisture) on the belts or pulleys will cause this. It could be the belt is loose also, or in conjunction.

your belts are dry and worn from the heat off the motor and when its wet ,the heat from the friction causes it to squeal, try using armor all foam spray until you get a new one
