The Meaning of Life
Why are we here? What's life all about?
Is God really real, or is there some doubt?
Well, tonight, we're going to sort it all out,
For, tonight, it's 'The Meaning of Life'.
What's the point of all this hoax?
Is it the chicken and the egg time? Are we just yolks?
Or, perhaps, we're just one of God's little jokes.
Well, ça c'est le 'Meaning of Life'.

Is life just a game where we make up the rules
While we're searching for something to say,
Or are we just simply spiralling coils
Of self-replicating DNA. Nay, nay, nay, nay, nay, nay.

In this 'life', what is our fate?
Is there Heaven and Hell? Do we reincarnate?
Is mankind evolving, or is it too late?
Well, tonight, here's 'The Meaning of Life'.

For millions, this 'life' is a sad vale of tears,
Sitting 'round with rien nothing to say
While the scientists say we're just simply spiralling coils
Of self-replicating DNA. Nay, nay, nay, nay, nay, nay.

So, just why-- why are we here,
And just what-- what-- what-- what do we fear?
Well, ce soir, for a change, it will all be made clear,
For this is 'The Meaning of Life'. C'est le sens de la vie.
This is 'The Meaning of Life'.

80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping others and other pleasurable 'feel good' pursuits.

The philosophical question "What is the meaning of life?" means different things to different people. The vagueness of the query is inherent in the word "meaning", which opens the question to many interpretations, such as: "What is the origin of life?", "What is the nature of life (and of the universe in which we live)?", "What is the significance of life?", "What is valuable in life?", and "What is the purpose of, or in, (one's) life?". These questions have resulted in a wide range of competing answers and arguments, from scientific theories, to philosophical, theological, and spiritual explanations.

I don't know if this is even a question that can properly addressed. For those not in touch with divinity, this has been the question that has plagued mankind from the beginning. I know that I cannot adequately address this question in the short space alloted on this q&a page.
First, God lives. He created all things that we know of.
Second, we are his spiritual children. Thus, we are all spiritual brothers and sisters.
Third, He placed us here on earth to experience the mortal condition, that we might use our agency and learn from our mistakes.
Fourth, He did not leave us unguided. He provided His directions via His prophets, authorized to speak in His behalf.
Fifth, His only mortal son on this earth is Jesus of Nazareth, designated to be our Saviour by sacrificing Himself to atone for our mistakes.
Sixth, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the repository of the fulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Seventh, if we follow the teachings He left for us, we will be able to return to Him after our mortal sojourn is finished.
Eighth, we wil be resurrected, our spirits will return to our bodies to gain immortality.
Ninth, our level of existence in the resurrection will depend upon what we did with our lives in mortality. What did we do with what we were given.
Finally, those that were most faithful with the teachings they were given will receive the highest eternal reward.
Whatever you do, don't give up on your search for eternal truths. They are available if you seek in faith, humility and sincerity.
Best wishes.

"Maimonides," the joke begins, "said that the meaning of life was all in here"-and with this the joker points to his head.

"Marx," the joker continues, "said that it all in here"- now pointing to his stomach.

"Freud," he mischievously adds, "said that it was all in here"-pointing to his groin.

"And Einstein," the joker concludes triumphantly, "said that it was all relative."
