Honestly! It doesn't necessarily matter where you are, face to face is probably the best, and hardest, or even by phone, if you're really chicken, email will do, but just be as honest as you can, while being gentle, attacking and nastiness don't usually get you too far, and will often provoke an angry response back. If you're Firm, Honest, and as Kind as possible you'll feel good about it when you're done. Good Luck!

In Babylon 5 ("Geometry of Shadows"), Elric claims that the mages know "the true secrets, the important things: fourteen words to make someone fall in love with you forever. seven words to make them go without pain, ..."

I have always thought that this line might the saddest one ever spoken. If would be wonderful to know those two secrets, but we never will.

Given that, all you can do is to quietly, gently, honestly, and respectfully tell them.

just be honest, but try to make them the LEAST hurt has possible... do it gently... you never know, they might even feel the same way and feel good about the idea... also, you can just call them less, and not see them as much.. and then let it kind of just fade out until you dont call each other at all... hope i helped a little.. good luck =]
