Yes, I can..b/c people can be scumbags. Out and out scumbags. Now, I was not a Dale SR. fan, but I had respect for him. I never rooted him for the win, but I never wished ill health on him. Not only did Nascar lose a hero that day, but a regular old family lost their Dad and Husband, and that's the worst loss of anything.
With that being said the author of the jacked up comment said it in a crude fashion, but unfortunately, it is partially true. The only one to blame for his death is the Intimidator himself. A lot of the old school drivers didn't want the new safety equipment, and he was one of them, and we now see the result of it. However, in his death he also became a hero in the sense that looking at the safety mandates that came with his death, which I think it's great, b/c it means his death was not in vein. There have probaby been many lives saved b/c of what has been put in place since his death. Was his death preventable?? Probably, but the world will never know if the HANS and safer barriers would have or not. Was his death tragic?? Yes, very. The image of Dale Jr dead running to infield care center should be enough to rip the guts of even the toughtest guy. Did he deserve to die?? Uhmm HELL NO!! He was a person, a person with family. He never did anything so intensly wrong that would rate death as a punishment.
Yes, conclusion: people are scumbags.

Yes, that person was being pretty rude, if he wanted to say that #3 died he could have just stated that 'he died because he did not wear the HANS device' without adding the nasty comment about 'he deserved to die'...but unfortunately since this is Yahoo! and it's ANONYMOUS instead of face-to-face...people can get away with saying nasty stuff without fear of physical retaliation or punishment.
BTW Dale Sr. was a decent, hardworking person. I think some people were jealous that he won his first championship right after his rookie season.....and yes he was an aggressive racer but so were other drivers, like Cale Yarbourough and the Allisons...BTW Sr. learned about racing from his father, Ralph Earnhardt.

THAT IS REALLY MESSED UP!!!! I cant beleive someone can be so heartless and say something like that. The least you can do is respect the man. Anyway, whoever said that was an idiot, Dale was wearing the same amount of safety equipment as everyone else on the track. It wasn't until after his death that NASCAR required you to wear a hans device and everything else. RIP Dale.

I agree the comment is disturbing. Dale Earnhart wore safety equipment, however, the impact severed a seat belt.
Since then it's good to know that the safety equipment has been upgraded since then but unfortunate that it took such a tragedy for upgrades to be made.
I didn't start watching racing until after that happened but I still know it would have been a good sight to see the #3 on the track every week.

No racing driver deserves to die.
I know I don't like Nascar, but the death of Earnhardt reminds me of the last death in F1.
1st May 1994. Imola. Italy. The Tamburello corner. Huge crash by the no.2 Williams-Renault. Speed at impact: 130 mph. Driver died that evening.
Name of the driver: Ayrton Senna.
(don't tell me you didn't hear about him)
One of the best drivers in motorsports.
Dead aged just over 30.
Don't know the details about the American pilot's death, but I heard he died in 2001. The last death in F1 was in 1994. Twelve years ago. Compare that.
And don't say F1 is stupid. Road courses test a pilot's skills many times more than an oval course.

Yes.... Some people deserve to die, but those are people like the BTK and other awful criminals. Just because he wasn't wearing the proper safety equipment doesn't mean that he deserved to die. I think that's sick and disgusting to say something like that. That makes no sense how someone could be so weird. But, there are weird people out there.

I think that it is messed up. He did not deserve to die. It would have helped to have had more safety equipment on but it does not mean he deserved death. Racing in itself is a dangerous sport no matter what safety equipment you use. My husband races at our local track and you can have all available safety equipment in use and still get hurt. That is a risk they take.

Obviously, whoever wrote that crap doesn't really watch the races. He had all appropriate safety equipment on. They only made mandatory changes regulating safety equipment AFTER Dale's death.
