Start with the first amendment. Freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, assembly and petition.
Do you belong to a religious minority? Write about how the bill of rights protects your freedom to worship the way you want.
Or maybe you have an unpopular opinion. The first amendment protects your right to speak out.

If you have ever been in trouble with the law (or know someone who was), you can write about how the bill of rights protects people who are accused of a crime.

I have been collecting signatures on a petition to bring the troops home recently, and it has been an interesting exercise in the first amendment. The right to question the government is the most fundamental of rights -- it underlies everything else.
