I don't think you are deliberately, selfishly avoiding anything. I think you are brainwashed by advertising by the people who want to make money out of you. There's not a lot of money to be made from spiritual enlightenment. (although I know there are people trying to sell that!) In fact there seems to be a correlation between money and a lack of peace and spirituality! So we all need less things,and we need to question the constant bombardment of selling us things, things, things.These things are just a distraction so that we won't question what is really going on. Which is, we are all being "fleeced" for the monetary gain of the sellers. (Of course there are small businesses that are not so culpable as the big guys, but they're still out to make a profit. You've been conned into thinking that having stuff makes you more impressive people.
