I know that pigs have a really rough time when they're being farmed. I think they're often living in conditions where they can't turn around or lie down. They apparantly aren't allowed to socialize either with other pigs. I understand that pigs can get violent towards other pigs, but surely there must be a more humane way of farming these highly sensitive and intellingent creatures! I'm not a vegetarian, and nor will I ever be (I don't think), but I can't stand the idea of eating meat of an animal that hasn't lived a happy life.

Well, I'm not sure if this is the kind of story you're looking for, but for me...this is the ultimate HORROR story! I grew up in a small town, on about 100 acres and occasionally, my family would raise a "farm animal" or two. When I was about nine years old, I was delighted at the fact that we got a pig. I personally took the pig on as my own pet. "Porky" and I developed a great friendship. I would spend hours in Porky's pen feeding it, bathing it, and just enjoying it's company. However, one summer, I left for summer camp. You could imagine my grief when I came home to find that Porky was gone! Of course, my parents made up a story that something had happened to Porky...however, I don't think they counted on my logical abilities and my ability to be able to conclude that all of the pork meat in the freezer was my beloved Porky. Perhaps this plays into the fact that to this day, I am unable to eat pork!

Oh of course! You'd be disgusted with the stories I can tell you of pigs being hit and kept from other pigs. Pig attacks against other pigs is mostly in the mating season, but the typical abuses are year-round. It is unbelievable to witness, as I have, a pig being forced into a small pen to keep it from running (and thus losing its tenderness) or pigs who get hit by their owners to "make the skin stretch" for pork rinds.

I had a family member who (unfortunatly) kept pigs for slaughter. It really discusted and disturbed me because of the conditions this poor animal had to live in. The pig was living in a roofless "box" barely big enough for its body. It had to lie in feces and rotton food, and about an inch of water under the hot sun with no shade. I hope that pigs torments them in their nightmares forever!!!!!!

God put animals here for us to eat. I still however don't think people should treat them horribly. They have feelings too.
