I need to get copies of a cheque paid into my account six months ago but my bank have said they can't trace it. Do banks keep such records?

You need to go to the branch where you made the payment, and you might just have to grease their theiving palms to do it. Natwest used to charge a 5iver

Yes, you may certainly get a copy or trace it if you go to your branch. Some banks charge for it though...but they definitely keep a track of all your transactions... Also if you keep your bank statements you might want to look through and some statements have check imaging as well.

yes they do. i had a cheque traced once, sometimes it depends on the person you speak to, sounds like they couldn't be bothered as it takes time and effort.
my bank is Barclay's but i presume it's practised by them all.
is yours a bank or building society? maybe they work differently

yes they do...contact your bank it will take a while but you will get the copies in the end.

Yes, I used to work for HSBC and had to find one for a customer. Just ask the branch where you handed it in!

yes you can what u need to do in pop in to your branch and get then to "back check" it it might cost you depending on bank but yes they can check it

i had to do something like that before. they told me that if it was prior to 3 months (i think) that i would have to pay for them to trace it back further.
