The first thing you should look at is how much RAM you have in your computer. You can do that by right clicking on the My Computer icon and then click on properties on the menu that shows up. If you have 256 Mb or less, you should probably get more RAM. You should probably upgrade to at least 512 Mb, but thankfully, memory is cheap now, so it's not that pricey.
Just so you know, virtual memory is a section of your hard drive that is constantly being written to that adds a bit to the RAM on your computer to make it run at a decent speed when your computer is doing a lot of stuff and your RAM is being used a lot. If it's running low all the time, that means that your computer doesn't have enough RAM to do everything that you're trying to do on the computer. So buying more RAM is probably your best bet.

Following are some of the causes of your problem:
1. VIRUS affecting your computer
2. Spyware attack!
3. Your computer must not be applicable for those application you opened.
Suggestion: If your computer is not advanced please try to open one program at a time or go to run in tart menu and type msconfig and uncheck the programs which you do not want to start in your system. (you will find programs in startup tab).
if there is not problem listed above try giving more information about your operating system and Processor (Pentium I, Pentium II, etc.).

1. Go to a DOS prompt, and type "Format C:"
2.Get a Virtual Computer. Then you will have all the Virual Memory you need.
Seriously, run antispyware and antivirus scans imediatelly. I bet adaware comes up with like 10,000 + spywares. Go to www.lavasoft.com

Temporary fix - shut down your computer and restart which will free up memory. Even when you close down a program you're using, sometimes certain files used to run it remain in limbo.
Better - Add more RAM.

CTRL - ALT -DEL then go to TASK list and processes. Right click on any processes that are using large amount of memory. If that doesnt work you need to run MSCONFIG in the run command (XP only) if you have 2000 you will have to download it. Once you run MSCONFIG you need to go to startup and deselect all that are not needed.
