Abilene, Kansas was the first location for the Texas cattle drives to end. This was because it was the railroad terminus. The cattle would be driven there and sold, and the beeves shipped to the East. As the railroad moved further west, other "cow towns" such as Wichita and Dodge City took the place of Abilene.
