Place a plastic pail or bucket over the stump for one day. Heat from the sun will kill any growth buds the tree is trying to generate.

Spray the cut surface and all other exposed parts of the stump, including any roots on the surface of the soil with triclopyr--sold by Ortho as Brush-b-Gone. If any regrowth appears, spray it again.

Drill holes in it and apply stump rot to it. It will start activation of fungi!

pour gasoline on it. seriously.. or get a small colony of termites w/o a queen.. they will eat it but then die afterwards because of no leadership.
