she drowned her and her husband's children because she'd been a bad mother and they weren't developing correctly? like drowning would help? and she's so detailed! I don't hate easily but....
anyway she must be crazy but she also knew what she was doing was wrong.. why would she do that? how could no one have noticed who she was? why?!?

well, according to her defense, she was having some mental problems. Post-partum depression and maybe some other issues.
The idea is that after a woman has a baby, the hormones get out of balance- much like some women get PMS, only in this case, it is a lot worse. Most of the time though the women just get depressed and try to hurt themselves, not their kids.
Not everyone believes or accepts this idea though.
The prosecutors will say that her kids were old enough that she should have been over the post partum depression already.
I can't imagine why anyone would kill their own kids though, and not be crazy somehow.
As far as not noticing, lots of people live with issues and ignore them. Plenty of people are married to alcoholics, and never say anything. So it is not inconceivable that she could have been absolutely crazy, and her husband just pretended not to notice.

Andrea Yates is mentally ill, but she and her husband are responsible for the death of 5 children. She needs to be incarcerated at a mental health facility. I do not beieve she will ever be right. At least she won't be able to harm herself or anyone else. Sadly her husband goes free.

Craziness is a weak excuse for Andrea Yates. Is it not any crazier to kill any innocent person? It's like letting serial killers off the hook for being crazy. If you can plan out and commit a crime, you're not crazy enough to avoid punishment.

There is something terribly wrong with Andrea Yates, I am not sure what it is. However that does not and should not excuse what she's done. There are many people who suffer from post-pardum and have little or no support who do not kill their innocent children or anyone else.

She was and is a very unstable person. But I still think she knew drowning her children was wrong. She needed help with her post partum depression and she needed birth control pills. Her husband knew she was having problems but didn't help her with the problem. He is to blame for those kids death too.

I think she was a very spiritually disturbed woman. I think she was mentally ill, which was further agitated by a cult-like leader that she and her husband had been involved with. The power of the "enemy of our souls" can be very profound, the deception extreme, if we do not know who we are in Christ. My question has always been, Why would the husband leave her taking care of their kids when he knew how sick she was. It was not big surprise to him, she had been receiving treatment. I guess he was deceived, too.

Yes...she is mentally ill.Her husband had her seeing doctors and on meds but it was not enough...maybe he was overwelmed not knowing what to do with the children if she where to go to the nut house for awhile.The family knew what was going on and the husband even had his mother come watch her...can you imaigine how this poor man feels now?It is such a sad thing.

According to the news she has some kind of depression that comes from having children.I am a parent and would never dream of doing this to my children. I think she is a sick person and needs to be sent to prison where she cant do anymore harm

Mental Disease? Possession? Schitzophrenia? The possabilites are endless. Do I understand her? NO. Any one who can hurt another human being is definately disturbed...but to hurt a child...your own child...your very own flesh and blood...I just know she will have to answere to only one being and that will come when she herself comes face to face with the BIG GUY upstairs
