Since it is legally ok for a woman to kill her baby if she doesn't want it, why should a father be forced to pay child support on a child he doesn't want.

I AM NOT IN THIS SITUATION. I just wanted the opinion of all you to see if you feel it is ok for a mother to KILL a baby but think a man is dirt if he won't support one. Seems to me we have messed up prioritys.

Rac, I can't feel sorry for a poor women who has nine months of pain because she wasn't careful. Don't forget daddy paying 18 years for the same reason.

No the father should not be forced to pay child support if he is unwilling to have the child. What people miss is that under the current system the mother has all the power to decide. The only time the father has any responsibility is if the mother wants money. If she wants to get an abortion nobody cares what the father has to say. I thought it took 2 people to create life. I guess it only takes one to end it. Huh

In most cases, the mother bares the burden of having her life disrupted by the pregnancy and child care after delivery. The man has none of that responsibility. As a result, traditional society and the laws of nearly all jurisdictions required the father to provide for the childs needs. If there is to be a termination of the pregnancy, then it should be a consensual decision between the mother and the father. I do not advice that course of action. Like your other respondents, the decision to have or not to have a child was made when you decided to have sexual relations. The scenario you describe usually takes place when two people are not commited to each other but are merely engaging in "recreational sex". When the natural consequences present themselves then the mother goes for the abortion and the father runs away. Thus, one error follows another merely making the overall situation worse.
Short answer, the father pays because the mother can't. Neither should be able to escape their responsibilities and if the mother decides to have the baby, then yes, she can obligate the father to support it. In California, even the relinquishing of parental rights does not extinquish the support obligation unless the mother remarries and obtains support from the new "father".

Of course it is a ridiculous question. That is the point he was trying to make. Neither parent should have a choice! When you lay together and make a baby , you both should have to live with the consequences. If the woman doesn't want the baby, then there is always adoption. Oh, don't think the woman should have to go through nine months of pain...oh poor her. Grow up. You don't make a baby, decide you don't want it and then kill it. Oh you are pro choice...well when the baby is given a choice ...get back to me!!!!

Oh, it isn't murder you say...well do nothing...let's see if it is a life or not. If it isn't a life then there isn't anything there to kill right.

Seems like everyone just makes up their version to make it fit their situation. If we all ever get smart enough to have a society with some morals, integrity, and a sense of responsibility then maybe this world would be a better place.

Sadly I know it won't happen. What this person is trying to say is you can't have it both ways! Why does she get a choice and he doesn't? Well, we are all smart enough to know that he shouldn't have a choice. When are we going to all get smart enough to realize that she shouldn't either!

Yes. because a man should be held to a higher standard for being responsible for his own actions than women. Being a responsible man used to mean something.

I am a man and I pay lots of child-support and it has been terribly hard. My life is not just about me though. These children came from me and without me their lives will be somewhat diminished. If I fail my own children, I am a vile man and I do not deserve favor or respect from all who know me.

To be more clear. YOU are responsible for ALL of your children. Whatever real or perceived unfairness has been generated because of circumstances involving the mother has nothing to do with you.

I do think society is too soft on irresponsible and contemptuously vain females. I also do not think that women should have multiple on-demand abortions and I think the courts should be much fairer to men. Men should have a 50-50 shot at getting their kids, with circumstances unknown, the second they walk into the courtroom. I also think child support is too high and there should be accountability from the receiving parent as to how the payees money is being used.

The system is designed right now to unfairly punish men. I know this for a fact. Now, if you want to talk about that. That is a better question.

The father's body is never pregnant, therefore he does not have a say in whether or not the woman carries the child to term. His time for choice was before he impregnated her.

Once the baby is born, he must help support the child that he helped to create. He doesn't have to see the child, but he does need to support that child until he gives up his parental rights. And the only way he can sign them away is if the child is adopted, either by a new mother and father, or by the mother marrying a man who is willing to adopt the child.

To answer your question, yes the father should be "forced" to pay child support. If he's a decent guy, he'll want to help out. A father can say he doesn't want the woman to proceed with her pregnancy, but that baby can't survive outside the mother's womb, so it should ultimately be her choice. When two people have sex, it's a huge responsibility for both parties.

yes, he should be forced to pay. you already knew the consequences when u didn't use a condom. the woman actually has a little more say in bringing the child in or not because it's her body that's being used to carry the child. if she feels like she has medical or personal reasons on why she doesnt want to carry the child, then she has a right to. i'm sure if it was the other way around where the man carried the child, he would choose to carry it or not, so pay up and take a lesson for next time.

It' America. Too bad the father couldn't sign some form stating that he does NOT want the child before the child is born. Maybe if that happened, we'd have a lot less welfare moms. I think the whole abortion thing is a double standard. It's a woman's choice but never the man's. That's ridiculous!!!

If a man decides he doesn't want a baby, he should decide that BEFORE he screws around, not after. Same with the woman. They made the choice to have a baby when they decided to have intercourse.

After that, I believe that neither should have the choice not to have the baby. People need to grow up and take responsibility for the consequences of their actions.

Yes, it is called signing off your "Rights"... then you are not legally bound to the child, but,.... this needs to be agreed with by both parties. So, if the mother doesn't agree, then you could have some problems, if it is proven (DNA) that you are the biological father. P.S. Abortion is not the legal right to Kill!
Abortion=Choice
Thinking=Choice
