I'm visiting Mexico City at the end of July and speak only a little spanish. I'd like to go to some restaurants that are low key (not really fancy) but nice and with a variety of food.

For more day to day tacos and such, you can go to the El Farolito chain or El Lago de los Cisnes. These, particularly Farolito, can be found in almost neighborhood in DF. No guarantee that the staff will speak English though. If you happen to be in the San Angel neighborhood, which has great crafts markets, then try the Bazaar and it's restaurant, which are open on Saturdays.

i'm american, but my parents are mexican, but when we go to visit family there in the city, we go to El Arroyo. the food is delicious, but i don't know if the staff speaks english. there's also Sanborns, those are good too. there's many of those around the city, and again, i'm not sure if they speak english there either. the hotel u stay at i'm sure will have brochures and pamphlets of good restaurants. have fun!!!

The majority of the Hotel are in English. Get Fodors book on Mexico, great for all info.

you can try 'La buena tierra' in 'la condesa' neighbourhood. Also, 'La casa de las sirenas', behind the cathedral, in the 'zocalo'. Or 'El café de Tacuba', Allende street, oustide the subway station called 'Allende'. Those are really nice places.
