She was created by Gargamel to corrupt the Smurfs, but the overwhelming goodness of the Smurfs made her good too. They don't have genitals. Ask Donnie why that's stupid.

There are 3 female smurfs on the television show.
Since the original Smurfs were male, a "story" was needed to introduce each female smurf, which kept their numbers small.
"Smurfette" was created by Gargamel to use her charms of seduction to create jealousy and competition amongst the males, to bring down the village. The plan didn't work, but she still remained the love interest of every smurf.
"Sassette" is a little freckled redhead girl with pigtails, and wears pink overalls. Using Gargamel's recipe, she was created by the Smurflings as a companion for Smurfette who was lonely being the only girl in the village.
"Nanny" Smurf was an old flame of Grandpa Smurf's who was trapped inside a cursed castle for centuries

She was the only girl UNTIL the smurflings came along and then there was a redhead named Sassette Smurf.

Well you see all the smurfs were male, then Gargamel created Smurfette in order to woo the smurfs, but it didn't work, so I say all the smurfs are neutral except Smurfette who has to use a smurf in order to get her smurf off.

actually there were 2. there was also a little girl on the show, so smurfette was not the only one. it is a little known fact because she wasn't added until late in the shows existence. the creator of the show was a man, and he probably thought that having only men on the show was a little sexist. and then, once he added smurfette, it seemed weird that there was only one female, so he added another, less famous one.
