Another thing too is that we no longer talk and that this money they spent was for my birthday. They kept insisting when I told them not to pay......granted they helped me out when I was practically broke.

And just one more thing....while I agree with all your answers, I don't LEGALLY owe them a damn thing. Morally does not make me sinful, I'm not trying to rob them of anything. They were friends who kind of betrayed my trust and I am leary of, and it's not that I legally owe them money because they're not bill collectors.

Yes, if you owe them money, if you don't speak to them send them a check in the mail...it is the right thing to do.

Yes, ethically and morally (and probably even legally) you still owe them the money. Maybe they've forgotten, but that doesn't mean you don't owe it.
And one day they could remember and contact you at a time that you don't have the money. so it would be better to pay them back as soon as you can.

Yes you still owe them the money! Ethically you should just send them a check/money order. Can you live with yourself knowing you have this debt over your head, to a friend no less?
