Bush's strategy in an election year is to bring up issues of little to no significance in the greater scheme of things to rally his base. Then the issues are never heard of again til another election year. The administration does this so that Republicans can win elections. Will the Republican base be this dumb this time around?

Ahh leave it up to the left to be hypocrites.....

The left does not like to sterotype.. but yet they always stereotype conservatives.. why is that?

You are saying that all republicans are dumb.. well based on that statement your question already shows biased and you are not going to have an open mind..... But this does not surprise me... most dems do not have an open mind.. even though the claim they are very open minded.....

But now that I'm already here, I'll answer your stupid question...

Most conservatives.. not all.. do not agree with the law against flag burning.. however we do think it is disrespectful and disgusting to burn the flag.. and the only people who burn the American flag are Islamic terrorists and anti-war liberals... hmmm do you see a pattern here.

Most soldiers, and I was in the Marines and Army for 7 and a half years, agree with the right to burn the flag, yet if I do see you burning the flag, I will punch your face in and spit in your eye....

By the way, I have a very high intelligence, and I will test my knowledge against yours any time...

I'm conservative and consider this flag-burning thing a non-issue. It doesn't matter if some buttplug scumbag decides to burn a piece of cloth colored like that. I consider it free speech. This is just more congressional Republican silliness.

As for this rallying the base, that's just stupid. We've more important things to rally to the GOP about than some leftist twit playing with matches because they have nothing intelligent to actually say. War, taxes, economy, immigration, etc are all more important.

As for the dumb comment - go to hell, asswipe.

Can you believe it only lost by ONE VOTE????

I'm a conservative who is totally pissed at the insult contained in the pretense at amendments to ban gay marraige and flag burning.

I will likely agitate and vote against any issue supported by people who burn or deface our flag. I am as entitled to be insulted and furious with them as they are to express their opinion by burning the flag. However, unless it is somewhere unconscionable, like at the funeral of a fallen soldier, I think it is protected speech. I don't want to start down the 'slippery slope' of letting the government decide what views are appropriate and which aren't.

The California legislature already edits out history they don't consider PC and puts 'gay sensitivity' training into our school textbooks. I think mind control is a bad thing no matter who does it, and we all need to consider 'what if this was the other side controlling what I can say?'. I think banning free speech is definitely a form of mind control.

As to the gay marraige bit, what sort of 'limited government' is that? Who are they to get involved?

There doesn't seem to be the old-fashioned conservatism my Grandfather used to support any more, the one where people made decisions for themselves and their family, and the government was supposed to just take out the trash and deliver the mail like a good government. I guess I am just too conservative to support this kind of nonsense. It is an insult to our intelligence.

no longer each and absolutely everyone makes use of the yankee flag unceremoniously and it isn't honest to generalize. I for one carry disdain for flag bandanas, napkins, bathing matches, etc. i'm adverse to flag burning yet would under no circumstances evaluate making an change protecting it. i imagine that this is a constitutional contradiction and would demean both the flag and the structure. on the different hand i trust that a courtroom could discover me innocuous of attack when I pummel the man burning something so pricey to me.

Yes. There is a solid, although dwindling core of neo-conservatives who rally around flag burning and other purely emotional issues. Patriotism has gotten to a level that is dangerously xenophobic.

You missed the point in typical liberal fashion, we got 66 votes one vote shy of the amending process, This is an issue we can use to beat you over the head and pour money into a race to get to 67. Polls have started going conservative so brainiac, you have got something to worry about. I find your position not doing well in the future.

Clinton did the same. Except he would bomb aspirin factories to rally his base. Bottom line both sides do this. You have to admit that. despicable I agree. Being that liberals are so supposedly openminded check out this site. I tend to lean to the right but have more than several liberal views on politics. This could do us all some good.
