My son is 12 and is a pretty good hitter,(542 avg). One of the things I notice is that when he hits he doesn't move his head in so that his eyes are following the ball all the way in. He's making all of his contact using peripheral vision. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

When I played little league, I think my coach had us bite down on the top of our shirts to keep our heads down. It sounds a little weird, but I'm pretty sure thats what it was for, and it worked.

I know the US softball team did this. They wrote numbers or colors on the ball. They were really small too to get really good eye coordination. They used a pitching machine. I believe they would just make contact with the ball by bunting it so they could really see it, but they had to identify what was on the ball.

Another dumb thing that I used to do was when I went to bed at night I used to imagine myself hitting the ball the night before the game. I would visualize it. I hit better because of it. Good luck!

hitting off of a tee always helps, that's how i was always taught at least. Put the tee down and get into your stance. just like while hitting rest ur chin on the shoulder closest to the pitcher. have someone On the mound do sort of a wind up and have the kid hit off the tee. make sure he goes from chin on left shoulder to chin on right by the end of his follow through "mike and Ike" but most importantly have ur kid after the windup is finished find the ball on the tee and watch it from contact to where it lands.

I know this sounds kind of stupid - but it worked when I was coaching little league, because my kids were having the same problem.
All I told them was "have you ever seen how funny the ball looks when a bat hits it? And it did work - they all laughed and had different answers, but they did hit better!
