Now is a great time, if your 10-month old is showing an interest. Be sure to introduce new foods no more than one or two a week. If you suddenly give the child 5 new things, and the baby has an allergic reaction, you won't know what caused it. Also, beware that corn and dairy in food items can cause problems. Best thing I ever did..... buy vegies (carrots and sweet potatoes are great starters), steam them and blend them up in a blender. Then, freeze them in an ice cube tray. This enables you to defrost and have a single serving any time. And, best of all, you know EXACTLY what your child is getting!!

I think you could have started already (maybe 8 mo.)... I remember reading, as soon as a baby tries to lunge for what you have on your plate or in your mouth is when you can start treading the waters of table foods and self feeding.
My 10 mo old eats just about everything we eat -
example -
*eggs or pancakes for breakfast (start w/ egg yolks only)
*green beans and toast w/ peanut butter for lunch
*a big piece of steak she can't choke on or cut up chicken w/ rice and some steamed veggies for dinner
Start out slow - start with one meal and work from there and do one food at a time and don't add another food for about 2 to 3 days in case of any allergies.
Have fun!

I started Feeding my son table food at about 8.5 months old. It was tortillas then bread. I would say when what your feeding your baby doesn't seem like enough. My son in his own way let me know about when he was ready. right now my10 month 3 week old son eats two solid meals a day one of baby food and juice and milk bottles (formula). try table food at the next meal you might be surprised

He/She sounds ready now. Just make sure that you don't give him anything that is a choking hazard (ie. whole grapes, nuts, candy, lg pieces of hot dog) Cut everything really small and give him a variety of healthy food. It usually takes kids quite a few times of trying a food till they like it. Sometimes as many as 15 or 20. Remember your child's eating habits are starting now and what you feed him now will reflect how he eats for the rest of his life!

Babies can have your table food when they are ready to eat them. You must be careful not to give them solids that are about the size of a hot dog in diameter as they can choke on them. Do not give them milk or dairy until after 12 months of age.

Nowadays Drs. are saying to wait until they are 12 mos. I started feeding my kids around 8 or 9 mos. Mashed potatos, applesause, almost anything as long as it is soft. If they are getting some teeth in, you could try cheerios.

Most babies are ready for solids between 6 and 12 months old. If your baby can sit unsupported, has teeth, and has developed the "pincer grasp" (ability to pick up small objects between the thumb and *one* finger, she/he is probably ready.

We started giving little bits and pieces to our daughter at 7 months. Sometimes we'll mush up a little of whatever we're eating and give it to her.
She loves crab cakes.
