It actually is illegal to throw cigarette butts out the window.
I've seen many fires started on road sides from butts being thrown out. I've seen a Fire Marshal throw out a butt in August.
Smokers are stupid and inconsiderate. There is an ashtray in your car for a reason. Cracking your window when you smoke and throwing the butt out the window doesn't make you or your car reek any less.

YES It starts fires! Anyone that does that should be pulled over, ticketed and heavily fined! Why do smokers think the streets are their personal ashtrays and trashcans? Majority of trash on beaches=cigarettes Pam We know for a fact that several fires in CA have been started by cigarettes. Any idiot that throws a lit cigarette out of a car deserves to pay for it. Any idiot that throws a cigarette on the floor, period, should pay. What right does a person have to just throw their trash on the floor? The main reason cigarettes are being banned left and right on CA beaches is because it is the thing that causes the most pollution on the beach. I have had to take old cigarettes out of the hands of little kids sooo many times at the beach. It is disgusting. Its bad enough smokers blow their crap into my face. Do they have to throw their trash on the ground, too, or out the window and start fires?

it is illegal to throw cigarette butts out the window. after a huge forest fire was started a few years back they passed a low allowing up to $5,000 in fines in some states for throwing butts out the window. It is generally not enforced unless the police are bored, or there is a drought and fires are very likely.

There is no danger from driving over a lit cigarette. Your tyres are probably hotter anyway..
People smoke because the Government sells it to us to kill us off. It is NOT ILLEGAL to smoke & people have choices.
Don't go out in the sun, you will get skin cancer, don't go on a plane, it will crash, don't drive your car, you will kill someone, don't use sugar it gives you cancer, don't eat apples, they give you cancer, don't breath the air it is polluted and gives you lung problems, asthma, and bronchitis, don't eat GM foods you will go mad, don't drink, you will have liver failure...

i think it is illegal to throw them out the window. but it is no danger to your car. you run over it too fast, so it is put out right away
i'm just glad they are banned from most public places now, maybe it will make people stop smoking them, since it's for their own good anyways

i choose to smoke...its a free country...i'm pretty sure there is no danger to you or your car unless you are riding with your head out the window or in a convertible...and most of the time smokers will look to ensure that they do not hit another driver...lay off i'm sure you have a nasty habit that people do not approve of...

there's no danger to your car by running over them. You're right, if it isn't illegal to throw them out your car window, it should be! it's a nasty, unhealthy habit that should be banned!

I actually smoke but do agree with you I dont throw mine on the ground or out the window it is littering Use your ash tray and if your outside die it out and throw it away..... It wont kill you

the cigarette has a temperature of about 800°C. due to the small size of it i do not think that they will harm your car.
