I thought BUT I'M A CHEERLEADER was overrated by people. It's only OK. It's not hilarious or anything. It had such a great, clever idea too but it was wasted. There should be a remake.
KISSING JESSICA STEIN was my favorite film of 2002 and it's one of my very favorite romantic comedies, next to WHEN HARRY MET SALLY. It's so adorable! Very funny and very smart! It gets better with each viewing. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! DON'T MISS IT!
LOST & DELIRIOUS is another great one. This is one of the best stories of true love I've seen. It's a heartbreaker. Piper Perabo is fantastic!
And speaking of her, she has a lesbian romantic comedy that just came out this week on DVD called IMAGINE ME & YOU. I saw it in theaters. It's great and highly enjoyable. If you like other british romantic comedies like "Love Actually" and "Bridget Jones" then you should love this one too. It's mainstream accessible so if your mom doesn't know you're a lesbian and you don't want her to know right now it's not going to look too out of the ordinary having her pick it up.
I also agree on MONSTER, which was my favorite of 2003. A great film! Charlize Theron is AMAZING! One of my favorite films of all-time.
You could also rent a movie called SHELTER ISLAND. And BETTER THAN CHOCOLATE, which I thought was OK, but others seem to love it and it's worth checking out. You can also rent the first and second seasons of THE L WORD.
You should really get Netflix. You will have more of them available to you then. But if you want to know any more I can recommend you tons since I've seen so many gay/lesbian themed films an am pretty much an expert on them :p. My e-mail is mikescott18@yahoo.com

I'm not really into girls (or today I think so, haha), but I am from a small town and understand what you're saying. Are there any bigger towns within commuting distance? Like, a place to go to concerts or anything like that? You said you're kind of "punkish," and I've found these kinds of groups often have more open minded people in them, but not always. It seems a lot of girls are experimenting these days, too. As far as what girls are attracted to: I don't know that a certain "look" will do it as much as certain behaviors/attitudes. Confidence helps, deep eye contact, flirty touching of the arms and such. Girls love being listened to and sincerity. I wouldn't try to "trick" a "straight" girl into "getting off," per se ... a) its not very nice b) if you manipulate a girl who isn't ready for a same-sex experience (even if she has the feelings), it could come back to hurt you as far as gossip, meanness, etc. If its any help, I went to a very small school, and have found out that at least a handful of people have came out as gay/bisexual. So kinda feel around for the vibes ... I don't necessarily know about "gaydar," but check to see who else holds a bit longer gaze at attractive females, make eye contact a lot, etc.

Gia with Angelina Jolie is a really great movie, Monster is alright if you like the whole fictional story. Boys Don't Cry is an awesome movie, and the new lifetime movie Gwen Arojas (spelling) is a really emotional but good movie.

Lost and Delirious was a good one...has a couple of scenes but not overly so. Stars Mischa Barton, Piper Perabo...about girls in love at a boarding school.
Swimming...cute movie with Lauren Ambrose of Six Feet Under.
D.E.B.S.--a PG lesbian spy flick with Jordana Brewster. Cute.
All Over Me, teenagers in Hell's Kitchen.
Kissing Jessica Stein...cute movie about a woman who decides she might not be straight after all. Good chick flick.
But I'm A Cheerleader...Parents send teens to a boot camp to try to change them into being straight...with surprising results.
The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love...two young women of different backgrounds struggle with their romance.
If These Walls Could Talk 2...Three generations of lesbians find love and problems.
Bound...ex-con Corky (Gina Gershon) falls in love with mobster's girlfriend (Jennifer Tilly) and they come up with a plan to steal the mobster's money...may be a little adult not sure, but it's good.
Claire of the Moon..one woman struggles with her sexuality after becoming attracted to another.
The Truth About Jane...high schooler Jane discovers she is a lesbian. Really good.
Saving Face...A Chinese-American lesbian and her traditionalist mother are reluctant to go public with secret loves that clash against cultural expectations.
I know these are a lot, but you have some to pick from in case some are checked out! Below are links to the movies on IMDB's database. Check them out.

But I'm a cheerleader is a great film about a gay teen. It's a comedy and there is another one that I can't remember the name of, also a comedy about an italian guy who moves in with a gay man, after being confused by the advertisements in the newspaper. The gay man is one of the best things that happen to him and his budding acting career. Both of these are funny and provide positive role models for young gay people. Good luck.

Chasing Amy. I've heard both sides on this one, that it's horribly offensive to lesbians, and great for lesbians. Either way, it's pretty funny :)
