I just got my old (but really only 3 months old!) laptop back from Gateway so now I must decide which laptop to keep. The Gateway or the Toshiba I bought 3 weeks ago while waiting for gateway to fix the other one.
The Gateway is as follows:
Turion 64 ML-32 (1.8 ghz)
1024 mb ram
15.4 widescreen
100 gig hd
ati radeon xpress 200
wifi
dl dvd burner
The Toshiba is as follows:
Pentium M 740 (1.73 ghz)
512 mb ram
14.1 widescreen
80 gig hd
dl dvd burner
s-video out
I like them both but can't afford to keep them both. So one must go. I like both of them for different reasons. I like the toshiba because it has the s-video and the smaller size. I like the gateway for the extra ram, larger screen. i don't know which one to keep!

Keep the Gateway, it's got better specs and will be better for the long run. The toshiba you will have to upgrade in a few years, where as your gateway you wont have to as soon.

The Gateway... more power, bigger everything... no question. Unless you absolutely need s-video and something more compact... Then you could see the Gateway and probably get a little more off of it than the Toshiba. It really depends on what you use your laptop for, but I would say the Gateway like I said unless you just need the features of the Toshiba or the money and can do without the features of the Gateway.

Gateway looks like it has better spec's (but, not by much). I'd vote Toshiba. I have respect for Toshiba, but none for Gateway.

What do you use them for? If you use it more for pleasure, like gaming, I would go with the bigger screen and RAM. If you use it for work and appreciate its portability, I'd go for the lighter, smaller one.
I generally prefer Toshiba to Gateway, but again, it's not just about the brand but why you're using the laptop.
