You can use that to tell what your ip is.

An IP address (Internet Protocol) is simply your address on the internet. All information on a network is sent in packets, and these packets need to know exactly where to go. When you open a webpage in your browser, you are basically requesting to view a file on a server. The server needs to know where to send the information to, therefore you need an IP address. Compare it to you wanting to write a letter to your friend. Sure, you can put the persons name on the envelope, but will the mail carrier really know where to send it to? Nope. You need an address. Just like that.

Anyhow, your IP address is also your doorway to the internet (which is a network). So be careful about who you give your IP address to....

I.P. stands for Internet Protocol Address. Just like your name is your identity, I.P. address acts as an identity for your computer. Every computer in this world has a unique I.P address. It is either provided by the Internet Service Provider(I.S.P) or can be configured by advanced users.

I.P. address looks something like this:- 172.835.74.21
This type is the most commonly used. The above one is only an example. This Version is called IPv4, i.e. Internet Protocol Version 4.

Now since the number of computer being connected to the net are increasing at rapid rate therefore there was a fear that soon the world will run out of unique I.P. address. Therefore the new version of Internet Protocol has come, it is IPv6, i.e. Internet Protocol Version 6. Where there would be 6 places for digits whereas the one above there has only 4.

You can know your I.P address by opening the command prompt, by the following:-

1> Go to START
2> Press RUN
3> Now a small box opens, in it type CMD
4> Command Prompt opens, now type ipconfig
5>And press enter, it may take some time but will let you know yours.

I.P. addresses are used by Internet Companies as well as Intelligence Agencies to trace out the location of Suspicious persons who may be involved in illegal things on the net.

I.P. stands for "Internet Protocol", and basically they are what networks use as a unique identifier for computers, kind of like your home address number for where you live. To find out IF you have one assigned (because they don't necessarily have to be statically assigned, they could be dynamically assigned, but that is another topic), right click on "my network places", then click proprieties, then right click "local area connection", then click proprieties, the scroll down to "internet protocol (TCP/IP)" click on it to highlight it, then click the properties button. If you have an address assigned it will be there (or you can assign it there).Otherwise a basic random number is assigned by whatever server you connect to. Your IP address, again is much like your home address. People can connect to you, send you stuff, transfer files (so long as they're not blocked by a firewall, etc.) Also, you can directly connect to others on a network via TCP/IP for faster quicker file sharing and such. Hope that helps.

IP addresses are used to uniquely identify a location on a network. It is similar to a postal address that uniquely identifies a physical location. In a command prompt window type ipconfig /all and you will find more information than you really want to know about your IP address.

I.P. stands for internet protocol- This networking protocol is used primarily for addressing. All devices on an IP network must have a unique IP address assigned to them. Each address consists of 4 octets (bytes) and follow the format xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. IP is typically paired with TCP, and is referred to as TCP/IP.
