The NBA draft works like this , back before the playoffs there is a lottery for the worst teams to try to get the first pick, after that is decided some of the nation's and some international players workout in combines much like how college football players do for the NFL. the teams then draft the best player they think will best help them either compete or win the title. as far as players who don't fit their team concept they are either traded, or put on the inactive roste.

teams pick players from a group of players who declared for the draft, teams can only pick from this group. the group consists of players 19 and up, from all ovr the world who either played college ball this past college season, overseas or in a league like the CBA or ABA. if a player doesn't fit a team, thy end up cutting him, and if a player doesn't get drafted, he becomes a free agent and can sign with any team. there are two rounds, guys who r drafted in the first round get guaranteed contracts and guaranteed money, but if a guy is drafted in the 2nd round nothing is guaranteed and a player would be better off not being drafted and being a free agent thn being picked in the 2nd round so thy can sign wit the team thy wanna sign wit.
