Go the hardware store and pick up a pack of medium grit sandpaper. Gently rub the sandpaper over the jeans to lighten the jean and make them look sandblasted. don't rub too hard or you will need to head out to the gap for a new pair.

YOu should get them soaking wet and sit the on your front porch in a chair so that sun is reflecting on them. You must do this until the sun has gone away and there you will have sandblasted jeans. I know because I did my shorts that way.

You could mix up a very diluted mixture of bleach and water and brush it onto the jeans where you want them to look paler, but keep an eye on them so they don't go too pale and then rinse off immediately and thoroughly.
