The intake of fat does have a lot to do with it. Also the speed at which you eat is a contributer to congestion after a meal. I suggest eating lean foods which are high in protein but low in fat and carbs. Stick to fruits, vegetables, fiber and whole grains. Also, slow down when you're eating. Try playing some music (like smooth jazz) while you and your wife eat to pace yourselves. Drink water at regular intervals while you eat. This will help prevent the congestion.

There is most likely an allergy that the two of you are reacting too. Try cutting out everything except meat, vegetables and fruits. No carbs, sugar or milk and do that for about a week. Slowly introduce 1 new ingredient for every couple of days and see what you react to. I had to do that with my 3rd child and he is lactose intolerant. Not an allergy to milk, but the lactose. I have a friend and her son was doing the same as you, and she found out that her son was allergic to nuts, gluten (found in flour), and milk. She did the same thing that I just stated.
It is difficult to do, but if its become a real problem, this might work. Good luck!

congestion as in where, if in d precordial region, then most likely both of u may need to undergo a thorough health check up as it may indicate some side lying cardiac pathology.. may also precipitate to an imminent heart attack or myocardial infarction in medical terminology... if not may be the type of food u ingest.... too much of carb or gas formin substances.... also its important that if u r clear from any cardiac pathology then.. a walk after meals is neccessary, if heart prob is there in any of familial tree its cardinal to keep a check....

Could be that there might be pesticides that you and your wife may be allergic or sensitive to. Also, might be allergic to the food itself. My advice to you would be to ask a doctor or nurse to rule out anything potentially serious. Wouldn't really rely on answers given by random people on the internet. Good Luck

it could be because you are, in fact eating too much. Or too fatty foods. If you are eating crap foods, you FEEL like crap.
Try changing your diet, more lean meats like chicken, fish, and salads.
