JimmyC how can the Portuguese be the worst offenders if the no. 1 concern of the Dutch was injuring Cristiano? Violent tackle in the 2nd minute and a criminal one in the 6th??? Was that deliberate or was it???

He was way to aggressive. Having been such a world class referee to be chosen to control an important Round of 16 match, he might have been good otherwise FIFA wouldn't have chosen him for the job. I can say that because referees pass through many tests and then are eligible for refereeing a match.
Seeing such an aggressive behavior by the players around him and on top of that the crowd making a hell lot of noise, he might have lost his head and he would also have thought to be aggressive!

As in most of the games so far the referees have been poor - inconsistant in applying too many yellow cards. They dont seem to be able to catch the cheats who are "diving" and are punishing the players who play hard but fair. The Portuguese are the worst offenders and the ref. in the Holland game was clueless and totally lost control of the game.

the ref was a legend.the players were not playin football and it was gettin ugly, n so if the ref didnt take action then he wood hav had no control over the match at all. it was the players fault there were so many cards. decos second was a wee bit harsh tho.
