Mariano Rivera of the New York Yankees...

At this time I would agree that Dennis Eckersley is the greatest relief pitcher of all time. However, if Jonathan Papelbon of the Boston Red Sox keeps up the phenomenal pace he has set for this year, no one will ever surpass him. He has been remarkable. Hopefully, they will not now try to make him in to a starting pitcher!! At age 22, and barring injuries he will surpass 300 saves easily!!

Go Sox!!!

This is up for debate. Lee Smith has more saves. Eckersley dominated like no one in his generation. Gagne converted 84 saves in a row. Rivera is a lock when you think post-season. But Ron Perranoski went 16-3witha 1.67 ERA in 1963 when relieving was not so specialized as it is now. Add in Trevor Hoffman and the 44 year old John Franco and that'll give you a good half dozen to choose from.

I always liked Mark Wohlers...probably not the best, I don't even know if he was a Relief Pitcher. But he was hot.

Mariano Rivera, no doubt about it.

Don't feel bad Mr. J. I know sometimes it hurts being truthful, just like yesterday when I had to go with Manny as being the best hitter in the AL....but sometimes we just gotta call them as we see them...lol
