Oh, it's going to happen. This will be a slow process as you will see a game here or a game there broadcast on the NFL network (such as one of the Thanksgiving Day games this year). As each season goes by, more and more games going to the NFL network. Eventually, the big contract in the sky comes due and the major networks will not be able to match the money the league will be able to net sending all games to their own network. Maybe 7 to 10 years. The NBA is making moves that are similar as well.

Monopolies are illegal due to anti-trust laws.
Furthermore, CBS and FOX have paid too much to let any football coverage go to a cable or satellite network. NFL Network, FSN, and ESPN will have increased coverage and NFL Ticket will be a favorite amongst subscribers, but there will always be football on the basic stations during the season. Advertisers are not stupid ... basic stations are received by everyone so that means more for their advertising dollar to boot.

First things first most tv is cable by now, and even then the NFL has a contract to allow one of the three major networks the superbowl and sunday night football so that means there will be at least 17 games you can watch enjoy it

I don't think it will happen anytime soon. The only reason MLB and NBA are having playoff games broadcast on cable are because they aren't as popular as they used to be, football is America's pasttime.
Of course, if the major networks can't come up with some better programming, they may lose advertising dollars, which will keep them from securing contracts to broadcast games.

I don't think that will happen cause the advertizing dollar is too great to allow a cable or satalite to have a monopoly on it. beside the NFL is no dummy they have it spread over 5 networks as it is. let them fight against each other.

We never thought we would see the day that MLB would broadcast playoff games on cable either, but there is already a plan in the works to do so on TBS. Here is my prediction...in my lifetime, I anticipate that the Super Bowl will become a pay-per-view event. Bank on it.
