Well, the referee's mistakes can break the balance of a game for sure. But it is the team's fault more often than not.

Like the Italy - Australia game, if your an australian and think that it was the fake penalty that took you out, think again. The team wasn't ready to win this world cup, so it was just a matter of time before they fell. There is many things to improve on that team, like the bridge between their defense and attack was weak, long passes from the back are almost sure to be intercepted by the defenders, rather than dominated by the strikers. The overrated Tim Cahill wasn't up to the expectations neither, they put just too much pressure on him, since he was the one expected to impress their fans.

What I mean is, a team can and will win a match, with or without the referee's help, if they are indeed superior. If the referee made such a difference with his mistake, it is not different from a lucky shot that gives no chance for the goalie, or one of those crowds around the ball in the goal area (like on corner kicks) where you can see that the ball just goes around and a kick from anybody can make a goal. My point is, you have to ask "why we weren't winning before that?" instead, because you will find many flaws on your team for sure.

No, Referees are part of the game, as the posts or area boxes. they have impact on what happens, but they are not the principal actors in the game. The players are. They define the results by scoring or not scoring in a game.
Even is a referee made a mistake in a call the players still have to score goals to win the game.

Yes, of course. The referees have all rights in this "world" cup and they can therefore define the outcome of the game by giving red cards and penalties even if it's unnecessary and by accepting offside goals as it was the case in Ghana- Brazil.

I definitely think so because they are the ones who decides where the goes at certain times. Look at the match btwn Italy & Australia and the other one btwn Brazil & Ghana.
