Tough call. They are certainly more dangerous then most things you can buy at a store, but in the same regard, if used responsibly they have become a part of our 4th of July culture. Maybe they could make them seasonably legal?

No but unfortunately I live in an area that has Zero restrictions on who can buy them. This week on my way home from work I have seen nothing but 10-13 yr old children hanging around the firework stands. Then about the time I go to bed, those children are outside lighting those fireworks - with no supervision. I think that fireworks are great and what is the 4th of July without fireworks BUT I think they should be put into the hands of professionals - not just any person that wants to purchase them. The sellers of the fireworks should have to get licenses from the state and they should only be allowed to sell them to ADULTS - not minors. There should be some control.

Fireworks are illegal in many states. I live in CT and we are able to purchase firecrackers and small fireworks. I don't know the dfferent classes of fireworks, but we can not purchase the type used at city fireworks displays. I do think we need stronger police intervention when a person has illegal fireworks. Too many people lose limbs every year from setting off fireworks.

In life we assume risk and responsibility with many things we chose to do: medical care, driving, drinking, delivery of natural gas to homes and businesses, boating, etc. The use of small fireworks can be made safe with the proper regulation and education. Moreover, fireworks remain relatively safe compared with other freely available consumer goods. I don't think that any ban of fireworks will ever kill the fascination some people (especially young ones) have about them. A much better way would be to educate people about fireworks. We are surrounded by dangerous things all our lives but get taught how to use of them safely. Why should fireworks be an exception?

No, I don't think fireworks should be illegal. Just as guns should not be illegal. It is not fireworks or guns that harm people. It's people who harm people. If we want to eliminate things that people harm others with, be it accidentally or intentionally, then automobiles should also be illegal. Fireworks are a beautiful part of our lives to be enjoyed by all and have been around a lot longer than many other harmful things on our planet.

The legality of fireworks is tough, if you live in NM where I live there are large restrictions on fireworks occasionally because of drought and the fire danger cause by fireworks at such time fireworks should be and are illegal. The large fireworks used in the gala displays should be restricted to trained professionals, but the other smaller fireworks when used properly should be restricted, and always used with proper adult supervision.

Yes and no. I think fireworks should be illegal in city limits but if you are shooting out in the country or a place that doesn t have a lot of population, homes, buildings then I think that is fine. The problem with fireworks is that once you shoot them off, you can t control where they land. I personally have had a window broken because of them. That is not fair that I should have to go replace a window because of someone shooting off fireworks not to mention homes catching on fire which happens every year. What about people with pets? Fireworks are very stressful on pets. People with PTSD also suffer when fireworks are shot off. The Fourth of July isn t about fireworks. When shows are put on, they should be put on in sparsely populated areas.

Absolutely not. Fireworks are a lot safer to use - when used correctly, that is - than many products people have in their homes that are deemed "safe." Fireworks cause fewer injuries and deaths per year than many other "safe" pastimes, such as bicycling, skateboarding, and exercising. Fireworks celebrate that birth of this nation, and the freedom we possess (well, what little freedom we still possess, that is).

Fireworks should not be illegal. People who use fireworks irresponsibly *should* be, however. It ruins the entertainment that those of us who know how to act responsibly enjoy.

Fireworks in public places are more dangerous than speeding
automobiles and most ignore this fact. Kids shooting off
fire crackers in a local neighborhood not only disturb the peace
but the sparks can cause a house or brush fire. In remote
areas, if people want to maim themselves, this is fine.

The travesty of seeing stands selling fireworks to me on
Walmart parking lots shows American hypocrisy at its
best. A dangerous business is selling at a place which
denies its employees even basic health care and forces
many to miss lunches/not report overtime. The number
of accidents and injuries caused by fireworks is also
understated.

No. There should be age restrictions put on the sale of fireworks. Parents should be responsible for what their children are allowed to set off. I feel in the states that fireworks are illegal that they should be only be allowed to the fireworks that are legal for that state.

fireworks are illegal inside most cities.

In most places you'd have to go outside of the city limits to use them. If you use them in the city you could get sited for attemped arson. I believe this goes for the flying types of firewors and the kinds you throw. The sparklers and the little ground ones that just spin around or make snake poop can be bad, but in a controlled setting they would be alright. Common sense is a big part of this question.

most people are saying that "use them responsibly and they are ok". However fireworks cannot be controlled once they are in the air. If you shoot one off and it misfires and lands on your next door neighboors roof and their house burns down, this is the reason why they are illegal in the city.
