1. He raised taxes on the rich and lowered taxes for the middle and lower classes. For this, the Republicans managed to retaliate by taking Congress in 1994. But this policy started the balancing of the budget and began an economic boom. We were actually operating at a surplus and starting to pay down the national debt when he left office. 2. After the World Trade Center attack in the early nineties, the perpetrators were caught, were put on trial with their full civil rights intact, were convicted, and are now serving the rest of their miserable lives in prison. THAT's the right way to send a message to terrorists. 3. The violent crime rate declined dramatically during his presidency. This might have been due in part to significant gun control laws passed early in his presidency, but it also made the NRA a formidable enemy, also hurting the 1994 campaign. 4. The number of abortions per year decreased by about a third during his presidency. This might have been due to more openness about ways to prevent pregnancy other than "just say no" policies or pushing "abstinence only" forms of public school sex education.
