TiVo is a type of DVR. The ones that are rented out by the cable and satellite companies are similar but have fewer features.

Tivo is a type of DVR. DVR = Digital Video Recorder; TiVo is a brand name - the first one (or first major one) in the market.

I've had both and like the TiVo better. Plus there are many aftermarket add ons to allow remote programming etc in order to maximize use, download programs to DVD and CD. Mine has two inputs to record 2 shows and even watch a 3rd.

I say DVR. You can record two shows at the same time instead of one.
