This was proven by Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage on Mythbusters. Gasoline will break down the simple compounds in sugar, and in a beefier engine, like the old Cadillac motor they were using, it didn't affect it. I'm sure that in something that runs a little more precise, like many of the computer-operated engines that are in cars nowadays, it might goof with it a little. If you really want to kill an engine, put bleach in the crankcase--that will cause it to break down faster than Bill Cowher at the Super Bowl.

No it's not true..

Sugar poured into a car's gas tank stays intact. While sugar could still cause harm if it reached the engine (but in the same way sand would, by virtue of its being a granular contaminant, not because the sugar would turn into a syrup), even that potential harm is generally prevented by filtration. At the end of the pickup tube in the gas tank is a "sock" that blocks solid materials, so the fuel gets through, but precious little that's not liquid does. Further up the line is the fuel filter, and what may have got through the "sock" does not get past it.

From what I've seen/heard, there is no concensus on wether or not the sugar could do actual damage to your car. Some common issues deal with plugging the fuel filter and fuel lines. Some think it does little to older carburated cars, but can really screw up fuel injected cars. Also, some think the overnight effect causes more damage.

I've never done it, or had it done, but I've seen the result. Yeah, it'll do some serious damage. It's more corrosive than gasoline, and will clog up the fuell delivery system. Just think twice if yer considering it. The damage level, is enough to qualify as felony vandalism in some areas.... (a word of caution.)

Putting sugar in the gas tank will totally destroy the engine.

It can clog the fuel filter or injectors, but at worst you'd have to change them out a bunch of times or have someone remove and clean your gas tank. Probably your engine would be fine.

Yes, because sugar don't disolve and it clogged a pipe causing your gas to stop flowing.
