Do you mean why is it in good shape or in bad shape? It's actually in very good shape considering that humans are running it. We could do better and most of us are trying. It just often appears to be in bad shape because too many of us dwell only on the negative.

There are many schools of thought on this question. Two substantive notions come from religion. One is theism and the other is deism. One suggests that God created the world and watches over it and guides it. The other suggests that God created the world and let it evolve on it is own.

Some find the notions of physics and the Bible to be contradictory. Others believe in the Koran, and other sacred texts.

As for my own answer, while there is great beauty in the world, and the universe...s__t also happens.

I don't mean to be flip about it, but I believe that it all comes down to two possible choices, a plan or chance.

Now for the bigger question, why is there a world and a universe?

The world is the way it is for two reasons:

1. The 2nd Law of Thermodynamics states that the quality of all energy in the Universe is degraded irreversibly....the inexorable death of the universe is not only predicted, its mandated by entropy.

2. It's an astonomical surety that our Sun will supernova in a billion years, leaving the earth a burned crisp...

The thought that by the very nature of entropy the ultimate and only possible future for man is annihilation has infiltrated our culture like a paralysis. "How is it possible to understand life when the entire world is ordered by a law such as the second principle of thermodynamics, which points to death and annihilation?"

We put a lot of senseless labor to shape it as you see it. See even you might be against of this idea, willing to rebel, to change something, but...you still do your movement which pleasing parents, teachers at school, bosses at work, society...Your movement is a contribution which makes your question solid as a rock and what you think about the world might be an opposite of it.That creates a contradiction which silently ruin your life, your health and Life ,definitely, will reflect it back to you.

Wrong place to find an answer for that really.....Go ask a priest or something....or who ever is your spiritual guide.....Good luck
