It's 100% natural born instinct. God put it there, not the bird's momma. They are not show where to go, they are born knowing it. Like the sea turtles.

For birds that do migrate these birds have been migrating for millions and millions of years so it is hard-wired into their brains. Similarly there are wild herds of cattle that must migrate to better feeding grounds and have been doing it a very long time. Another example is salmon. They migrate upstream to the same rivers and streams where they were born. You could say the information is embedded in their DNA almost.

birds migrate by following simple rules=e.g. when days get short fly south. they also use position of sun and magnetic fields to navigate. because they are responding to physical stimuli the reaction is genetically based rather than taught
