Airless sprayer. But if you want to never have to worry about it again and also have something beautiful than grow climbing rose bushes, English Ivy or jasmine if you want to cover it quickly. Nothing better than the beauty of a plant over any color of plain fence. Depending on your growing zone there are many beautiful plants that will grow in a chain link fence and cover it in 1 or 2 seasons. Go to http://www.gardenweb.com/ and look in the Forum section and I'm sure you will find something better than paint. Also your cost for the plants will more than likely be less than the paint.

It takes two! Get heavy rollers, like masonry rollers. Work together on opposite sides of the fence rolling together, with the fencing between the rollers. No over-spray, no leaching of paint into the soil and a lot less wasted paint. But unless prepared properly, which is an awful lot of work. the paint won't last a winter. Forget spraying unless you live in a fairly open area with no other structures around unless you intend to paint them as well.

Yikes WHY???

Spraying would be the most rapid, and effective, but also considerably wasteful of the material, as well as the residue leaching into the soil.

Consider this. An analogy... based on the fact that the links are at least 2 inches apart, and there's a lot of OPEN inbetween.

The Sun warms us, tans us, etc, but in fact only a minute part of its effect ever touches the Earth. That isn't to say,,,in this analogy, that the rest of its effects are wasted, but in your case, no matter what you do, painting a chain link fence, is a waste, not only of materials, but labor and time as well. No offense meant at all.

A paint sprayer would work good if there is no or just a slight breeze. Having a drop clothe covering the other side would be a good idea to prevent overspray. and wear protective glasses and an asperator might be a good idea also even outside.

rent an airless paint sprayer from your local home improvement store. I just painted one this past weekend. It took me less than 30 minutes to paint 600 feet of fence.

Use a heavy nap roller on both sides. Spraying is fast but you waste alot of paint.

Spray paint, but preferably with a compressor and a spray paint attachment. This is faster and easier than cans.

Paint sprayer and use cardboard to put on other side, that way you don't get the over spray and you use less paint,

rent a paint sprayer, use a decent quality oil base if you want long lasting results, if that doesn't work, try a paint glove.
