In my town I'm not allowed to start a fire most places. Especially in the summer.

Flag burning is ONLY okay if you are using it in the proper way. Flag burning is used to retire old flags and there is a ceremony that goes along with it. Any other type of flag burning is a slap to my face as an American and yes I take great offense to it. If you want to burn the American flag in some other country go for it, but you do it in my front yard and you'll have me to reckon with.

I wouldn't do it. Not because I'm against it. I personally believe it's an expression of free-speech. I wouldn't because the gut-level reaction it causes in people makes it impossible for them to hear about whatever you're protesting because they're completely focused on you burning the flag.
Plus, have you ever seen anyone burning a flag other than on TV? And it's usually in another country. And usually not a real a flag, but a bed sheet with paint slapped on it. And they never get it right. It's always something like 26 stripes and 8 stars.
Don't quite get the reference to your town. Sorry you can't start more fires, though. What's an arsonist to do?

Its mostly a tool used by politicians to avoid real issues. There have been few cases of flag burning in the US. Just watch, whenever there is a real issue to be faced, someone tries to pass a flag burning amendment. Happens every election year.

What do you think of the Janjaweed in Darfur? The crap in this country? The killing in Iraq? The suffering in other African countries? The victims of 9/11? Nuclear power in N. Korea? Even Osama in Tora Bora? Lemme guess, don't care, right? Same way I feel on flag burning.

Burning a flag is a relatively non-violent way to express one's disapproval of the country involved. Similar to burning a person in effigy.

It is a symbolic gesture of expression, no one is actually hurt by it. I think it should be allowed.

It is a much better way to protest than to start a riot.

Everyone has the right to burn a flag as a protest in this great country of ours, regardless of whether we agree with them or not. I do not like it, but isn't it wonderful the same laws that protect them also protect us? People just need to remember that what they are doing is showing disrespect. Not only to the country and laws that protect their right to do it, but for the wonderful people that have died and sacrificed for that right. Since respect is earned and not automatic, I reserve the right to not give them my respect or acknowledge their complaints. We are all capable of settling our differences in a better way.

It shows a lack of respect. I have burned American flags, for legitimate reasons when I was in the Boy Scouts. What many see as abridging their right to free speech I see as protecting a symbol of the country that gives them the "freedom of speech" they feel the need to exercise.

Flag burning as a method of political discourse is protected by Americans rights to "freedom of speech" and "freedom of expression", and, as such, is legal, as is my right to consider those who do it lower than scum.

TITLE 4- CHAPTER 1- Sec. 8. of the US Code:
(g) The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature.

Why would you want to? This nation isn't perfect but the only country that I think ever deserved it's flag to be burned was Nazi Germany. And those silly nations that lead the crusades needed spankings!

i wouldnt do it, but thats only cause something hasnt ticked me off enough to. i dont see how anyone can see it as anything other than political speech, which is why it will never become illegal. unless the SC goes crazy conservative with like 7 conservative justices. but then once the SC goes back to normal it will become legal again. this issue comes up all the time and it just shows people what the bums in the legislature waste their time doing. nah peeps, we dont want you to solve any real issues - keep trying to make something illegal that the SC has ruled to be legal! idiots, and they wonder why people hate politicians.

if you want to do it, go ahead...doesnt solve anything, but burn a flag. i wouldnt, but thats just me.
