If you are refering to prtecting your pc from hackers and intruders, I would recommend a firewall, such as Zone Alarm.

But the BEST protection is a hardware firewall. Most routers on the market today use NAT, or Network Address Translation, which also acts as a firewall, and it is very good.

Hope this helps..

In my opinion Norton and McAfee have, after many years of leadership, fallen behind the pack. They are slow to update and miss many of the newer problems. Norton is also a resource hog and slows down a lot of operations.

AVG is a decent program because it is free but it is not much more effective then Norton & McAfee. You can read about and download AVG free here - http://downloads-zdnet.com.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_2-10503939.html?tag=lst-0-2

Trend Micro is easy on the resources, updates itself daily and is quick to provide protection for new malware. You can read about Trend Micro, try it, buy it or get a free virus scan here - http://www.trendmicro.com/en/home/us/home.htm
