Some Reincarnationists believe that rebirth can happen on the same day, following death. It's really a matter of free will, and there is no set timeframe.

If you are talking about coming back as a ghost then the answer is "it varies". If the death was instantaneous and traumatic (i.e. sudden heart attack, car accident ect). They can be seen as soon as an hour after death, the reason being that they don't know they are dead or do not accept the fact they are dead. Rarelyl it is a case that they are afraid to go to the light. Also if they died peacefully, they could be attatched to their house, or loved ones and that can keep them around also. Usually though if it was peacefully they don't, because they are accepting of their death, and travel to the light.
Now if you are talking about reincarnation, there is no set time. There are cases where a man was shot and one week later a woman in another city gave birth to a son. When the boy was able to talk he related the story of the mans death to the letter. He even had two birth marks that looked like the entry and exit wound of a bullet on his skull in the exact same place the man was shot.

It varies. The more people lived, the longer it takes for them to come back, because first they must forget. It's not good to come back with memories. The more fulfilled their life was, the longer it takes them to forget. The more you call their name, the more they are reminded... So YOU have to let go first.
It's going to be at least nine months though, because even if he comes back right away, he's still going to need to gestate. Unless he comes back as a plant or animal. Then he'll gestate accordingly.

Well some old people in Puerto Rico, says that the dead come back in 9 days. Usually they leave a message in fisical form or in forms of dreams. That message usually is that they are okay so we don't have to worry, and also they tell you good by in their own ways. afther this they go away and do not come back. That is what some of my family has told me.

Go to an aura reading and they can tell you. Back in the day's when I was into the acult and stuff, I wen't to one. They told me that I was in fourth life and my soul extended back at least several hundred years. You do the math. Putting that nonsence aside. pending on his beliefs, though it don't matter, you won't be seeing him again unless he visits you in a dream. Sorry for your losses. I lost 3 Granparents in the last 2 years. Even though he will be missed, he still loves you.

In a hospital, usually it's 15-20 minutes. After that there is little chance for it.
So no, I'm sorry, but your grandfather won't be coming back.

a persons spirit leaves the body directly at the time of death unless they aren't ready to leave. I think that spirits choose either to stay in the body, stay out of the body but stsy on earth, or cross over.
