September 11

the answer sort of depends on the time frame you are interested in. Also, you could actually count newspaper articles, but it seems like it would be difficult to get any sort of count about newspaper and radio stories, and that doesn't even get you to reporting on the web.

For example, the most reported story in a single 24 hour period might be
-the end of WW2
-9/11
the tsunami
-Pearl harbor being attacked

but it is very different if you are talking about something that went on for years, and was reported for years - like an entire war.

The most reported story is 911. We still talk about it and always will. Lost a lot of lives and it was a very sad day for everyone in America.

lIn recent history I would lean toward September 11. With the new movie out it's getting more steam. It's also lurking in the background as the reason the USA is invading Afghanistan, Iraq, and is now thinking about going to Iran.

A few years back the Lillehammer Olympics were spammed with the Tanya Harding/Nancy Kerrigan knee whacking. That was deplorable.

Wow. 9/11 leaps easily to mind, but if you mean overreported, I would have to say the OJ Simpson case, from the White Bronco chase, to the trials, it was a train wreck of media sensationalism.

I believe that it is "The birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ". You figure, it has been in print, written about, stories told, as well as ministers, priests, and teachers telling about this, nearly on a weekly basis. All the while going on now for over 2000 years. You do the math.
