I have a copy of Poe's Best Tales, published in 1924 by the 'modern library publishing co.' There is a tear in the title page that goes about 1/4 of the way across the page. I'm not sure if I should leave this damage there or tape it. The tear is new and I'd like to preserve the book, but tape from 2006 might ruin some of the aughenticity....?? I'm not sure what to do.

You could call your public library and find out if they have a restoration or book repair department, many do, especially in larger cities. Sometimes the people who do that kind of work also freelance on the side. That way you would be sure to get archival work and your book won't lose value.
