I think if a woman schedules a c section with no medical reason for it then the doctor is irresponsible for doing it. My doctor would never schedule a c section without a medical reason. I had to have one with my 3rd and he told me the risk is greater for both mother and child , it is a major surgery and recovery is longer , the risk for infection is far greater. Having done 2 vaginal and 1 c I would take a vaginal any day over a c section.
Also I think if an insurance company knows the c section was not really medically nec. they could and should refuse to cover the cost.

I am pretty sure they do this out of fear. They have heard horror stories of the pain and the once in a great chance that the baby will have the ambilical cord wrapped around it's neck. The pain after a C section is far greater than child birth naturally though and takes a lot longer to recover and leaves an ugly scar. Natural birth is what you were meant to do. Your body is designed to do this so there shouldn't be that big of a fear of it. But when you don't know what to expect, it's real scary to think about.

I think they are crazy! I had both a c-section (emergency) and natural. A c-section is no cake walk. One of the risks of a c-section that your bladder can get nicked. Mine did and I can tell you 2 weeks on a supra -pubic catheter is no picnic. You have up to 8 weeks of surgery recovery.
With natural I pretty much bounded out of the hospital 12 hours after delivery. The pain is way over exaggerated and with the pain control they have now, women can avoid a lot of it.

I personally think it's nuts!! But my doctor told me he was having alot of women asking about it because of several reasons: 1) they want to have it on a SCHEDULE so they can plan around it, no surprises( yikes! ) 2) they don't want to go thru labor(then don't get pregnant, adopt) 3)they think it's an easier recovery. I think having one when it's not necessary is just plain odd. I was told I would probably have to have one and I didn't want to. Luckily for me an ultrasound in my 8th month showed I could have my son normally, so I did went all natural!!. I figured, if my mom did it, Why couldn't I?

Selfishness, convenience, won't be "loose" like they would be after giving birth vaginally (which is NOT true). Other than that, I don't know. I think it's sort of ridiculous. People seem to forget that yes, even though most women are awake and alert during a c-section, this is MAJOR SURGERY. Your OB has to cut through your skin, fat, abdominal muscles and your uterus. It's not like having a cavity filled...

instead of dealing with the pain some women feel that it is a less painful way of getting labor over with.
To some women their greatest fear of pregnancy is labor and delivery. Thats why they go for the cesarean FEAR.

Some women who have several other small children at home scedule c sections for convience to have it planned so they can have a sitter on that day... Plus a c section is safer for mother and child. Doctors are doing it more, due to that fact they will have less law suits

How safe is caesarean section.
Mukherji J, Samaddar JC.
Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Eden Hospital Medical College, Calcutta, India.
Over an almost 5 year period, 8,017 caesarean sections were done, and there were 51 maternal deaths following caesarean section (of which 5 were done outside). Caesarean section deaths accounted for 1 in 8 overall maternal deaths in the hospital, and institutional mortality for caesarean section was 5.7/1,000 operations. The causes of death included haemorragic shock in 19 (37.3%), general anaesthesia (11.6%), hypertensive disorders 5 (9.8%), general anaesthesia in hypertensive pregnancies 4 (7.8%), septicaemia 7 (13.7%), hepatic failure 3 (5.9%), pulmonary edema 2 (3.9%) and unknown including pulmonary embolism 6 (11.6%). Five deaths followed elective operations. Caesarean section done in cases of antepartum haemorrhage, hypertensive disorders, post caesarean pregnancies with adherent placentae and obstructed labour caused the majority of caesarean mortalities.

Because even tho they can have the baby natural... they like the fact that they can choose when and what day and what time there baby will be born into this world... That's the real reason women have c-section when they don't need too... Its because they want to have the options of when there baby will be coming into this world! I don't think that women should have c-section's unless they need it!

because it seems in this day and age everyone wants control of everything including the day they have their child.
i myself think it is not the best idea , due to the complications of a c section and the fact it is major surgery .
if there is no apparent reason for a csection i think letting nature take its course is safest .
