The most typical cause of vertigo is a issue with the inner ear. See a GP or neurologist to help determine the cause of the vertigo, some can be cured but some can't. I have vertigo caused by fluid in my inner ear so I take an antihistamine to 'dry things up'. When the vertigo is bad I take dramamine or wear 'Sea Bands'. Also, change positions very slowly....like when getting out of bed. Hope this helps.

I have vertigo and my doctor explained that your ear as fluid in the inner ear and also 3 cannels leading from the ear to the brain. As you move, the fluid enters these cannels and lets the brain know the position your head is in. The problem comes in when a small crystal forms in this fluid and when you move your head the small crystal enters one of the cannels, sending a false message to the brain. Your other senses may indicate your looking up, however the crystal in one of the cannels may be sending a message to the brain your looking down - thus causing you to become dizzy. My doctor also said there really isn't much you can do about it, just live with it.

There are many less common causes of vertigo. These include stroke, brain tumors, low blood pressure, heart arrhythmias, multiple sclerosis and migraine headache. Many prescription and non-prescription drugs can cause dizziness or vertigo. In some susceptible people, cold and flu medicines, painkillers, as well as treatments for high blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid disease, depression and anxiety can produce lightheadedness and dizziness. The treatments for Meniere's disease are generally not as effective as those for BPPV. Severe attacks are treated with vestibular suppressant drugs; in between, Meniere's symptoms are often controlled by reducing salt intake and by taking diuretic drugs, which reduce the amount of fluids in the body.
For similar reasons, people with Meniere's should avoid alcohol, coffee, chocolate and other foods that are high in sugar or salt. As with BPPV, surgery is a last resort.

A lot of causes--high or low blood pressure is what they usually check first. If you continue having it see your doctor.
