Marriage is a bond that 2 people are supposed to share for life because they have found out that they should be together for the rest of their life and love each other (despite their genders). Marriage is supposed to ALLOW children to be a blessing and not a nuisance or a burden. but marriage shouldn't be all about marrying someone just to have children, it should be about LOVE because these two people were brought together to be in love for life (in sickness and in health, til death do you part). however, i don't really think there is any point to get married if you decide not to have children because it is in the vows (at least at the traditional church ceremonies) that you both allow children into the world (because it is what God wants). i think gay ppl should be able to adopt but they shouldnt go through stuff just to be able to have children cuz that isn't right.

I'm biased here, as a denominational theist. but here's my take:
marriage is a concept which really belongs in the realm of theology. b/c, otherwise, what is marriage? how is it different from a "civil union" (or whatever term their using for gay unions these days)?
I don't see why gays feel the need to get "married" as opposed to a "civil union".
anyways, I think that in religious thought, a marriage is a contract and a relationship which enhances each partner's life in many ways, including having someone special to love (in exclusion to others) and someone with whom to have children.

Marriage is just another legal tie. It straps you in tighter to the system. Non of my uncles or aunts got married and they've got kids and all and everything is just lovely. Not getting married doesn't mean that you love your partner any less ... if someone tells you the contrary slapp'em. I think most people who get married do it for the legal advantages or security. Love has got nothing to do with it. - Dont let the system fool you.

you still get decent tax breaks once you are married and the joint credit helps you get loans better. I think the purpose of marriage is the symbolism that you want to spend the rest of your life with someone. Plus, I think even if you don't get married, a lot of states have commonlaw marriages that if people are together long enough, they are legally considered married

hELLO,
I think marriage is a union between 2 people to share their life and experience things together, not just to have children.
Some say that marriage is justa religious thing and also to stop the spread of std, but some are just people's opinons.

Religious beliefs also create an environment where people feel compelled to rush into marriage in order to have sexual relations. I'm not suggesting pre-marital promiscuity is okay, but pointing out that life-long commitment and children are sometimes afterthoughts.

Marriage does not exist soley to have children. It is a commitment you make to another person showing your love and dedication to that person. Not all married couples have children and not all parents are married.

I, personally, am not for the "M" word. But, I give credit to those brave enough or stupid enough to do it. It should not have a condition based on children attached to it. And why shouldn't gay's have the same rights as everyone else?!

There are many reasons to get married, friendship, campionship. Many of the elderly marry, they can't have any more children. There are even medical insurance reasons.

God wants marriage to be between one man and one woman who are married to each other. Marriage is for having children if you want and for companionship and sex.
